Why do people mistake dating for relationship?

Dating someone doesn't automatically put you in the relationship bracket. How many people he/she is dating during this time is within his or her rights. It's not cheating, it's weeding out the garden to find what theyre looking for.

I can understand how this would be misinterpreted for instance if someone had gone on several dates with just one person

As long as everyone's on the same page, it's cool. For example, I don't choose to sleep with anyone who's just a casual date. If sex is expected to be part of the package, I'm looking for a relationship.
