I am not sure where you live but in the U.S it has not only been normalized but standardized and fetishized heavily in an aggressive plot to diminish straight black men. Strong straight black male representation is hard to find without having a white woman savior or being demoralized and coming from "the struggle". Even as far as what's being normalized in children's entertainment and school content. With a culture that is sometimes so vehemently against black love, it can be easy for people to get defensive about such topics especially when they or someone they know has been impacted by such characterizations. So that may be a reason why.

Also. If who you are involved with romantically has nothing to do with the person's culture/race then just live in your happiness. The same way people won't like the clothes you wear, the friends you choose or whatever other silly opinions people have about other people's business, that's the same way you should treat their opinion about your relationship. They are entitled to their opinions but it doesn't have to be your problem. Miserable people will always look for company.

On the other hand, if your severely bothered because people don't accept your relationship, when in reality, they don't have to and they are allowed to have big feelings about it, I would suggest you take a closer look at the real reason you are attracted to said person. If they did and said those same things as a black/Jamaican man would you still feel the same way? Because fetishizing romanticizing a relationship because of the cluster differences and public perception or internalized messaging can work both ways.

That's just my two cents. Hope things work out for you.

If you're going to capitalize the B in "black," you have to capitalize the W in "white" or you get no BWC.

It’s nothing to be ashamed of, the heart wants what it wants

I’ve only dated Latino and white men, not because of preference but because it just happened.

since moving abroad

In that case, why do you care how people in Jamaica feel?
If you're trying to do this in the states, it's because of the history. Learn more about the history, so you can understand the "why" in this situation. You will understand then.

You love who you love and don't let other people's opinions get inbetween your relationship.
