Pro tip: Avoid "What do you do for a living" I'm sick of it and honestly I want to talk about that for a bit, Thing is that the society we now live in and it's relationship to work is that work comes and goes for a lot of people and is not exactly stable there's a lot more uncertainty and unpredictability that's been baked into the job market and here we are still trying to break the ice with "What do do you do for a living" I want to talk about why this bothers me, because it's not like when something gets to me there's no god damn good reason for it.

The truth is those who defend it argue we spend a huge amount of our time at work and all that might ultimately be true but whne you're getting to know someone I don't ultimately want to talk about the office I mean I'm sorry but it's just...

And Honestly A lot of people are now acting like they are nothing more than an extension of what they do for a living and that mentality considering the vulrenability of much of the work force is now ultimately a danger in the sense of if people don't learn to derive identity from things other than a living when that job has mass layoffs and they are swept up in it what happens to their sense of self when they're no longer able to use their job as a crutch for figuring out their real identity?

And that question only serves to hammer in deeper the idea that we are nothing more than extensions of what we do to get our $$$
