I think if you are on a dating site, you are inviting messages from interested parties. If you get one from someone who doesn't interest you, it's only simple courtesy to respond with that information.
Otherwise it's like saying 'call me' and hanging up when they call.
Maybe just prepare a short polite thanks, but no thanks' response you can copy and paste.

@Mamapolo2016 but then you have to deal with the why why why messages.

@IAmNothing Don't dating sites have a block feature? If they don't, they should. I haven't been on one for a long time, although I did meet my late husband on one.
And why can't you tell them why? If they ask, I'd tell them. At least that way they'll get some concrete information to work with. 'Sorry, but you don't appeal to me looks-wise. Don't message me again, it's pointless.'

@Mamapolo2016 there are block features. Sorry but I think you're ugly would be rather mean compared to silence

@IAmNothing Well, honest doesn't have to mean cruel. I like outdoorsy types or intellectual looks or I spend a lot of time jogging or swimming and I would want to share that with my partner.
My late husband and I did not exchange photos for months because I didn't want someone who was ruled by surfaces. I'd already been married to a very handsome man.
