"La Vie en rose" – Grace Jones

[media=https://youtu.be/YEM8TspcCBY]
Singer Grace Jones’ interpretation of Édith Piaf’s signature song, “La Vie en rose”.

The version by Jones is radically different from the original one by Piaf. Jones’ recording was first released when disco was king (1977) and her arrangement has a definite disco vibe to it. It was the Jamaican-American’s first international hit single, reaching the top 5 in France, Italy, and the Netherlands. In the US, the song made it to #10 on the Dance Club chart.

Jones says “La Vie en rose” is particularly meaningful to her:

"That's a very special song to me. Oh God, I cry every time I sing it. I had quite a few French lovers, so every time I sing it, I think about them."

So many including Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, and others have sung this beautiful French song but this is a very different cover … lovely …

Thank you for another good post … 🙏🤗🤗

@Soossie Yes, it has been covered by many other performers over the years. Almost posted Louis Armstrong's lovely recording (might still do it) but decided to go with this interesting version instead.

You're welcome, and thank you for your comments. 🤗
