"Fly, Robin, Fly" (1975) Silver Convention

Forty-two years ago this week, a disco song called "Fly, Robin, Fly" reached #1 on the American music charts. The recording also was a hit internationally, was certified as gold in December 1975, and won a Grammy Award for Silver Convention, the group that performed it.

Some other noteworthy things related to the song:

Silver Convention was a German group and it was the first one to have a chart-topping hit in the U.S.

The song's lyrics consist of only six different words: Fly, Robin, Up, To, The, Sky.

As "Fly, Robin, Fly" flew up the charts in late 1975, there were increasing requests for live performances by SC, a group made up of studio performers. The women who recorded the song were dismissed by the group's creators/producers and a trio of women who weren't on the recording were selected to be the "face" of SC. The replacements actually were capable singers and they were the voices on SC's only other American hit: "Get Up And Boogie", also consisting of only six different words.

The song originally was titled "Run, Rabbit, Run" and it reportedly was changed moments before it was recorded. Perhaps John Updike heard about it and was threatening to sue for copyright infringement. JK

@berangere Indeed.
I remember dancing to their music at the disco. My favorite songs of theirs were “You’ve Got What It Takes To Please Your Woman” and “San Francisco Hustle”.
Likewise, for the lyrics to those songs, refer to their respective titles. 😊

@bijouxbroussard I like both of those songs too. 😎 🕺 💃

Lol. Disco was really about the beat and the lush orchestral sound. I don't think too many cared about the lyrics. 😅
