Chiara is in her pointework class now

Pointe work in ballet involves dancing on the tips of the toes using specially hardened Pointe shoes.

Requirements for Starting Pointe Work

• Age & Training: Typically requires dancers to be at least 11 to 12 years old with a minimum of 4 years of consistent ballet training.
• Class Frequency: Usually requires taking 2 or more regular ballet classes per week.
• Strength & Alignment: Dancers must demonstrate strong core alignment, proper ankle stability, turned-out legs, and the ability to maintain a strong demi-pointe before moving into shoes.

Pre-Pointe and Foundation Classes

• Pre-Pointe Classes: Focus on floor and barre exercises (such as relevés, échappés, pliés, and theraband work) to build strength in the feet, ankles, and calves.
• Introductory Courses: Programs covering proper shoe preparation and basic rises.
• Studio Courses: Schools provide progressive courses ranging from absolute beginner pre-pointe up to elementary/intermediate pointe and variations en pointe.
