Just saw it now the big question who's gonna drive the 2nd Mercedes. Any guesses?

@Bjoern1997

The Stig?

I'm joking of course.
Bjoern1997 · 26-30, M
@RenFur wasn't it said that Michael was the stig? Lol. And his son I don't see ik a Mercedes. My first choice would have been Norris but he just got a new contract. Would love to see Alonso in the Mercedes. Like Hamilton and Alonso helping to build cars for the younger generation (leclerc and Russell)

@Bjoern1997

That HAS to be the best kept secret ever. Who WAS The Stig??

@Bjoern1997

About Russell - I'd like to know if he was actually a better driver than Lewis or if the team wanted to ease Lewis out by giving him a slightly inferior car? Would you have a hunch as to why Russell was - presumably - allowed to better Lewis in many races?

@Bjoern1997 Mostly Albon seems to be mentioned to replace him at Mercedes.

@Bjoern1997 Seen several reports lately that the Mercedes F1 franchise is haemoraging money enough for it to 'consider' leaving at the end of it's franchise renewal date.

If they are considering leaving i doubt they'll shell-out for the services of a 'name' driver.
Of those potentially available i guess you have to consider Fernando Alonso.
Been in F1 a long time and has had some success with Aston Martin in recent times.
But at 42, he's experienced and won't come cheap.
That would also make him the oldest driver in F1.

Carlos Sainz is another 'name being touted. Not exactly set the world on fire since his switch from Rallying but seems to have done enough to trade in his F1 back-up seat at Ferrari for a #1 seat somewhere.

Esteban Ocon is said to be available. Reasonably experienced with the likes of Renault/Alpine.

Alex Albon. Currently test driving for Mercedes......

Daniel Ricciardo. Was reasonable back-up driver at Red bull but rumours of Red bull favouring Verstaapen at the time meant he moved on.

Still much to be decided i think.

@Picklebobble2

Ever watch the Brit Top Gear? Wasn't Ricciardo the top F1 guest? The one with the quickest time for the pro drivers? Even quicker than Hamilton?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@RenFur Possibly. I gave up watching Top Gear when it went from being about cars to being the Clarkson show.
Not good when one personality dominates what the show's supposedly about.

@Picklebobble2

He was a bit much, that's for sure. But wasn't it always about him and his Neanderthal ways?

I quit for good - and will not watch, ever - when Joey from Friends took over. Worse than Jezza ever thought of being. What was an American doing heading up that show to begin with? And an arrogant, scene-stealing one at that?
