Hi! So I have some questions

So I like to write short stories in my free time, particularly horror. And for my next one I’m planning on doing something involving a wendigo but I know that the modern depiction is not quite correct to the traditional depiction, so I was wondering how I should depict it in a respectful way, and if I should write this at all as I’m not native myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
