So, being a Navajo..

It’s interesting seeing some of these comments which are pretty kinda not how we should be homogeneous in our thinking…

Natives come in all shapes and sizes

Even colors

Hair styles

Hair types (Not just straight or black)

Varying cheek bones

Statures

Etc…

Also if you’re Navajo you’re sacred name is

A. Not for Anyone (but close family) to know as it could be used against you
B. Not going to be a simple animal name. It’s much more linguistically complex
C. Going to be withi the 4 sacred mountains

Some of y’all asking about these stereotypical nonsense attributes…

I just don’t get it…

Also, you’re great Great grandmother who was a Cherokee princess?

Not real. (More than likely your family wants to be a part of history in some way and made this shit up)

If you grew up singing the sacred songs, eating/cooking the food, hearing the stories, doing the ceremonies, speaking/reading/writing the language w the community then you have/are a part of tribe.

It’s not in your blood. Blood quantum is ridiculous. No ones 100% or 1/2 or .25 Native blood. That’s colonizer nonsense.

Your culture is in your spirit.

If not.

Don’t claim it until you have.

My opinion. That is all.

Everybody wants to be Native until it's time to go live on the Rez.

Aho! These are not opinions, these are Facts! I don't know how many times I have sat through buffoonery, by those who claim this heritage but their lifestyle is totally the opposite.. Either way, I normally don't discuss my Ancestors' ways amongst outsiders, just too Sacred..

And that Indian Princess thing..soooo cringe worthy..

@QueenandCrown It is! Someone posted about her Dad giving her a spirit name and he’s a on a Navajo reservation in Texas it’s such bullshit.

And then all the comments following that were just stupid.

People saying “oh I could tell from your cheek bones” pfffft.

She blocked me for it…whatever.

Just further proves she made it up.

@AnthroKenji Navajo Rez in Tx?!
AnthroKenji · 36-40, M
@QueenandCrown She made that shit up. Her spirit name was sparrow her dad told her…ugh fucking kidding me??

I asked for her dads clans and she should know to NOT provide them is an insult, not to me, but her ancestors.

That entire post was bullshit she just wanted attention.

@AnthroKenji Interesting, but not unusual. A lot people like to claim our heritage but do absolutely nothing about it.
AnthroKenji · 36-40, M
@QueenandCrown She was being naive. She could have done this so much more tactfully but she went the typical white romanticization of people’s.

I hope she learns from this ignorance.
QueenandCrown · 41-45, F
@AnthroKenji I understand but unfortunately that's all people know about our culture is through the eyes of the outsiders.
AnthroKenji · 36-40, M
@QueenandCrown That’s what sucks. She said “my spirit name is sparrow” and then posted a pic of Jack Sparrow. She doesn’t understand the significance she’s a child playing w a very important artifact that people of the tribe have even lost and wish they could get back. The Inuit of Alaska have had the names beat out of them and don’t have clans anymore in some places.
