How did the Irish become white?

Someone needs to put a 🇮🇪 flag here with us too?

From where I sit, I have no idea how they ever weren’t. And in much of the U.S. they basically became the face of our police departments. Not something anyone not white could achieve.

@bijouxbroussard bear in mind race is a social construct. Irish, because they were colonised were thought to be of "lesser racial stock" than Anglo-Saxons and other Germanics. Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese and Greeks had it the same. Which is ironic, seeing as Spain created the pintura de castas, which was the original blueprint for racial hierarchy.
