I just read that Poilievre’s stance includes Criminal background checks for Canadian student visa holders.

Is this something that wasn’t done before for international students?

My daughter is an international student in Europe and had to get one done

and in the case of mandatory minimums and 3 strike rules copy 40 year old failed American policies too.

Based on his other statements it is more about background checks on whether students blindly support Israel and not really about background checks for criminality.
