I Am British

"I love the British accent"
What does that even mean? I hear Americans say it all the time but I sound nothing like someone from London or from Glasgow etc. So which one do they mean!?

Either Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, playing a 'cockney chimney sweep or a 'posh' accent as found in many a period drama.
