"Let's Get Normal Again"!

Is it necessary for a British Prime Minister to be a UK citizen?
Because I seriously consider running for PM. I mean I'm certainly not worse than BoJo or Truss.

My simple program would get the UK out of its present disastrous crisis almost immediately:
1. Apologizing to Brussels, returning to the mothership as soon as legally possible. If not legally possible soon, do it illegally – but do it!

2. Making the UK part of the Eurozone.

3. Stopping the left-hand-driving madness, making normal right-hand driving mandatory. Cars with the steering wheel on the wrong side will have to be replaced by regular cars within 12 months ==> economy boost!

"Let's Get Normal Again" <== my Election Slogan.

It certainly places into question the parliamentary system, that is now overtaken by parties, that maybe made sense 100 years ago... Canada follows the same system, I wonder the uproar, even among quiet Canadians, two PMs in three months? The Conservative party of Britian now must be wondering when their time is done and how they regroup?

@thewindupbirdchronicles I hope the Tories will stay in power for a while. They created the "Get Brexit Done" disaster, and I want them to earn all the praise for it.
@helenS There is people who have to live with that consequence, though.. but it might get some politics out of the way, Ireland and Scotland, are bound by parliamentary laws to be part of Britian. When things really go out of hand, showing already, they have more voice in saying we want nothing to do with you.

@thewindupbirdchronicles I predict the final outcome of "Brexit" will be an isolated country named England.
@helenS I'd predict that too. I'm guessing the kind monarch dying won't help things either. I do hope the EU puts pressure on the US, as in a way the UK now is kinder than what I see from the US and I'm sure the US sees a hole in power in world issues and willing to exploit.

@helenS It’s possible that one long-term outcome of Brexit might be an independent England (or, perhaps a bit more likely, England and Wales): An excellent outcome, in my view. And we certainly wouldn’t be isolated, as we have not been at any time in our history.

@MartinII Not sure about Wales. I don't know why but when I was in Aberystwyth (spelling?) I made a terrible mistake: I told some guys on the street how beautiful the city is, and generally English cities are really nice. ==> icy silence 😐
MartinII · 70-79, M
@helenS Yes, the Welsh wouldn’t like it. But they couldn’t manage on their own and the Scots wouldn’t have them!
helenS · 36-40, F
@MartinII ... I should have said "independent England", not "isolated", above.
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@MartinII Not sure England would manage on our own. We need the Scots , Irish and Welsh grit, imagination and fire to counter our aggression, authoritarianism, arrogance and belief that we are the best in the world. We have not fought a war alone since the late 13th century and failed in many of our adventures, even with help.
helenS · 36-40, F
@LizOwen Please don't hide your light under a bushel – it was England where our modern liberal society developed.
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@helenS Often with the help of Irish politicians. They drove the fight against the aristocracy in many cases (think of the Chartists) while the Scots also did their bit.

@LizOwen Here's another important point: without England, we would have never seen that crazy 🤪 deerstalker hat:

... and, on a related note, is that cape English or Scottish?

LizOwen · 41-45, F
@helenS Conan Doyle, who wrote Sherlock Holmes, wasn't English though - he was Scottish, and the deerstalker hat is probably more used in the Scottish highlands than anywhere else. The cape is good though!
helenS · 36-40, F
@LizOwen When I'm PM, I'll make wearing a deerstalker mandatory in the City of London.
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@helenS That's the most sensible idea I've heard from any prospective PM for years! Helen for Prime Minister!
MartinII · 70-79, M
@LizOwen Well there’s a lot in that historically. I’m not sure the Scots would be much help nowadays!
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@MartinII Can't blame them really, We're probably the worst possible neighbours. I can't imagine fighting a war without them on our side though.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@MartinII If we are going to break up the union then I think Wessex and Cornwall will also be queuing up to have their say.
