Black British

But how do I identify? I was raised by a very religious family of Jamaican descent. Those ideals were expressed to me from a very young age, but I've never felt Jamaican.

I guess having no real roots - knowing who my birth mum was, and her heritage, or indeed who fathered me - just makes me feel that I'm British.

As the years go on, and people come out of their isolated collectives that are Indian, Pakistani, British, Eastern European, Jamaican, Nigerian et al, and just mingle inter-racially, I've identified more and more as just Black British.

End of the day it's no big deal, right boo? We're all in this together - on this spinning rock - and we are different but it's so much fun - and less boring - to explore those other cultures for ourselves.

That's where my head is at.

I think the only reason why we should be aware of our roots is so that we know what it is that we have break free from.

@helenS Or to accept and take with us...

@StreetwalkerApril I'd rather see our roots as chains which are attached to our feet.

Totally agree and besides it being so much fun, it opens our minds and if we just get over ourselves, we soon learn to love and accept each other as brothers and sisters all united in a common cause.
