Too much pop culture, not enough real culture

Too many Americans only know Star Wars, Lady Gaga, TV shows, etc. I enjoy a lot of popular culture too. However, we neglect our own serious writers, artists, musicians. Art elevates our consciousness. It deepens our lives. Humans need it.

I’ll throw out a few examples off America writers, artists, composers for you to discover:

Writers:
Nathaniel Hawthorne
Edgar Allan Poe
Mark Twain
Sinclair Lewis

Artists:
Jackson Pollock
Georgia O’Keeffe
Japer johns
Edward Hopper
Mark Rothko

Music Composers:
Duke Ellington
Leonard Bernstein
Cole Porter
Scott Joplin
George Gershwin
Florence Price
I completely agree with you.
And it's not happenin'

Not on any large scale anyway.

When I was a kid I was reading the authors you mentioned, apart from Lewis. Most boys I knew read Tom Sawyer at least.
How many kids read Tom Sawyer today?

I would regard John William's film scores just as any classical music piece in their own right. I think he's really elevated any movie he's contributed music to.

"Huh?" is most of their vocabulary.
