German American Day

Today, 6 October, is German-American day.

It commemorates the founding of Germantown, PA, in 1683.

Which is actually sort of funny as Germantown wasn’t even really founded by Germans. It was the Dutch.

It was Ronald Reagan who made German-American Day a thing in 1983 to commemorate 300 years of German immigration.

The pic is of a Bavarian town, Miltenberg. Possibly like the places my peeps came from.

this is funny. Kind of like how the "Pennsylvania Dutch" are actually German speaking Mennonites and Amish. Guess it is over the German "Deutche" which sounds like Dutch to Anglophones.
