Here in the UK we're a bit baffled at how Evangelical Christians in the US have so much power and money.

@Fluffybull Part of it happened because America is built on a lie. In school as young children, we learned that good people seeking freedom and new opportunities came to the eastern shore of the continent and created a utopia of egalitarian society.
Fact is, the Puritans were an outlying religious sect who were persecuted for their beliefs and felt that they could create their own perfect world in a new land. That's fine, except that they didn't intend freedom for anyone but themselves and they remained moored to their conservative, puritanical values throughout the generations. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised everyone in Massachusetts isn't dressed in some kind of red cloak.
