Immigration

Strange thing, immigration.
Most of the countries in the world have been affected by immigration at one time or other. Some have even been founded and developed by immigrants.
They can be seen as a positive or a negative factor.
My own nation - England - was named after the Anglo-Saxon immigrants on the 5th and 6th century, who replaced the native British after decades, perhaps centuries of warfare. we even thought of racist names to call the original natives. We called them Welsh - foreigners - although we were the foreign invaders.
How arrogant is that?

And the Angelo Saxon face the invasion from the Vikings and suffered a similar outcome.. And then the Normans invaded from France and had their turn at being the top dog.. So don't make it seem like one group was only oppressors and another group was only the oppressed when each group took their turn at cracking the whip upon others..

Oh and i forgot to say that even before that the Romans invaded England and later abandoned England because they had to go back to Rome because it was being invaded by the Goths and other tribes from Germany who had their turns at cracking the whip upon the Romans..

@Adstar Indeed - except England didn't exist when the Romans invaded - the Angles and Saxons had not immigrated yet!
But there is no doubt that the English have been major oppressors in their time, attacking all the smaller neighbours (and getting a few bloody noses in the process!)

@LizOwen They got whipped and then took their turn at whipping others.. Lots of people in the world have been oppressors and then the oppressed..

Oh and there where people living in England before the Romans came. They where not Angelo Saxions but there where a number of small tribes who had their own internal wars and took turns whipping each other.. They fought the Romans in their war chariots and lost..

@Adstar Indeed so.
Before the Romans came the Celtic British tribes lived in what later became England and Wales. Other British tribes and small nations were in the south of what became Scotland, and the Picts in northern Scotland.
While the Romans defeated the southern British, the Picts remained free of conquest, hence the walls to defend Roman Britain.
The later Angles, Saxons and Jutes invaded southern Britain from Germany, again defeating the British tribes and nations to found a dozen small nations that much later merged to become England, a nation notorious for its aggression against its neighbours - and just about everybody else!
