I remember when I was a kid and you could still meet people with numbers tattooed on them.

Holocaust victims. Granted they were all elderly at this point but they were still around. Now, I'm not entirely sure any of them around at all.

I just find it depressing that an entire generation is leaving this world and we still haven't done them any justice. All people in my country do is say we were the big hero who saved everybody when in reality we just waited for a lot of people to die and then stormed the nazi front in Normandy while ignoring all those people locked up in concentration camps elsewhere.

I came across a video entitled something about "cringe" where a guy on TV said thay Russia ended the Holocaust. That is not cringe. I don't know if Russia ended it solely by themselves but I do know that the US was responsible for liberating exactly zero concentration camps, unless you count the ones where the vast majority of the victims were already dead.

Russia did at least pick up some of that slack by liberating still living victims.

So now an entire generation of war/atrocity victims are gone, never listened to, even to this day. We let them down by neglecting the sources we had providing evidence of what was going on at the time, and we doubled down by then claiming to be WWII heroes after showing up late to the party and finding a bunch of innocent, dead people.

We still do things like that today. Not on the scale of WWII but similar in nature. People suffer tremendously in silence, and the ones who survive have to just pick up the pieces and move on, never being listened to. Or worse, having their story of suffering and neglect painted over by our "patriotic" narrative.

Studying WWII in depth, beyond American propaganda, was how I found out my country kinda sucks. We do a lot of sitting around, talking big, trading with terrorists & war criminals, and then rewriting history to make us look like heroes.

@SinlessOnslaught that was 2014
@Jenny1234 Over a decade. Sounds about right.

I just wish we didn't paint over the history of people's lives.
Yes, I remember those people.
Today people in the West say that they defeated fascism! They didn't. They're fully fascist throughout the West. Russia and China did try. Not so much, the West.
