Have ordinary people become too weak these days?

How so? What's the solution?
Top | New | Old
Yes, I think we have. I think we got marketed into it. “Want some gadgets that’ll do what you do?”

…and we got governed into it…”don’t have compassion for the poor…the government will do it.”

I’m 74 and when I look back on everything politicians promised, and what they accomplished (they usually make it worse).

And now we are in a place where we believe (again) that the wealthy are better humans than the poor, because they must be blessed by God. If people stay poor, they must be lazy and worthless. The Bible states clearly that it will be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven.

“Mind your own business” has become a war cry for modern society. If I realize there’s a murder being planned and I do nothing, what sort of human am I? If I know children are abused or almost definitely at risk, and I do nothing, I am part of the abuse.

So we stand back and stay silent because bureaucracies will take care of it. They won’t.

The same people who hate police are the people who CALL police when they feel their personal sovereignty is challenged. Then when things do not go according to “their way,” they call 911 on the police.

I recently saw a video where a man who was accused of murder and hiding from the law called 911 and summoned the police because his fast food fries were cold. Of course he was apprehended and faced trial.

We “order in” because it requires the least effort. It’s more expensive, less healthy, and less satisfying than cooking at home.

The world today looks impossibly shallow and self-centered, and sooner or later (I think it will be sooner), we are going to get just what we deserve, and we will be too weak to fight back.

That’s my cheery answer.

oh gosh thank you for reminding me, I need to pick myself up and save the world.
I seriously need to pick myself up.
I suppose that counts as a yes ?
I'm not sure. I don't think we're weak exactly. I actually think we're stronger, because to get yourself together in nowadays world, takes a lot.

Yes. The solution is state-sponsored programs to toughen people up, like physical fitness regimes. The alternative is to live in a more brutal world, where people toughen up out of necessity. And there is just no reason to go backwards into barbarism just because civilization has a coddling and infantalizing effect.

@Alyosha Grow a community of accountability, not a hundred percent sure not gonna lie.
@Alyosha well, we're certainly not hoping for YOU, Americans or Westerners, to use evidence or aim at anything but chaos, war, rising inequality and more poverty. You don't even have a left in politics and you never showed any signs of resistance to the capitalist duopoly.
Evidence based politics, outcomes, these can't matter! Americans snidely know nothing about outcomes. Ever! Or root causes. Lolz! It's fun for them.
@IUsedToBeHere accountability goes along with finding what works, and doing those things. Accountability is leftist. Science based education, for example, was driven out of US education, decades ago, because the politics of evidence is so hated by every community.
I suppose we have. But people disagree greatly on how that weakness looks.
Well being does not correlate with high profits or war acceptance. So, yup!
The population that won't resist war urges and war politics is our West. No exit for them! They killed all alternatives and rule alone!

I'm not sure I understand.
@IUsedToBeHere that's what everyone chooses. Isolate, bully and ignore but never ever respond to what I said!!!
The US VOTERS do not aim at well being, they voted against their well-being, the bipartisan coalition refuses to make policy that aims at popular well- being. The population chooses to be a workforce that's desperate, compliant and non political.

@Roundandroundwego I don't mean to isolate, bully, or ignore you.. I'm just having to work extra hard to understand what you are saying. I think I understand vaguely but it is based upon my interpretation of what you are saying because what you're saying is very wide open to me, and I probably don't understand politics as fluently.
