My Scandinavian mother has always used an old saying when trying to describe why we think the way we all think. She would always say "If your mother hates cats, you too will learn to hate cats", because she projects her hatred for cats outward in her attempt to get rid of it, not caring that her kids are her listening audience.
I remember traveling from Sweden to JFK then to Raleigh North Carolina on a business trip a while back. Spending my first night in a hotel in Raleigh (Chapel Hill) I soon realized my hotel was on the edge of a college campus in Raleigh. Going to a sports bar on the edge of that campus for lunch the next day, I sat there while overhearing 18 year old White college students talking about the Black students at their college, as if the Blacks were space aliens who'd invaded their space.
I then took a walk through that college campus and saw mixed Black and White students walking around, but there were huge banners tied to lamp posts which talked about Black and White segregation issues in the college itself! This was only just a few years ago too!
Somehow, those 18 year old college students had become totally pitted against Black students their own age and when I asked a White blonde haired female student what the banners meant, she told me that "her momma" taught her that if we're not careful, the Blacks will take over the world and we can't let that happen!
And I was like, wtf are you talking about, girl? I looked pretty much just like her and she looked sort of like me and she just stared at me and asked me why I had a "funny ak-cent and all.."?
I told her "because I was raised in the jungle of Africa by two Black parents..." and she said "oh! that would explain why y'all don't sound like one of us!".
Racism is taught to children by their parents and peers groups, but if Racism isn't taught at home nor on social media websites, then a kid from northern Europe will not be predisposed to a Racist bias themselves.
