Okay here’s the dumbest thing. Once your husband dies, you have to wear black or dark gray clothing for the rest of your life and pretend to be in mourning and never ever think about having another boyfriend or husband because God forbid that you forget about your husband or even think about another man

@Jenny1234 I'm not aware of too many traditions that require you mourn actively for the rest of your life. Sure, you dress in black for a while and concentrate on your lost love, but then you respectfully move on and continue to live your life. He would want you to be happy, wouldn't he? You can meet new people without forgetting him.

@joe438 older Portuguese women. They won’t move on

@Jenny1234 Ahh. I don't know anyone from Portugal. It is a big, diverse world and in that culture, I guess you know how it works before you get married and commit yourself to one spouse. I would hope that the women can at least have casual friends and don't have to sit around alone.

@joe438 female friends but they ordinarily should be sisters or cousins. Still have to sport those black long sleeved knee length dresses though

@Jenny1234

I've never heard of that. Totally fucked up

@Jenny1234 You do have to respect culture even though it can feel old and stale at some point. It feels like everything in American culture has completely changed in just a few years- maybe Portugal will change too.
