Were things better in the 50s

I know I am probably going to get severely attacked for this. Aside from the human rights violation Black people should have never been treated the way they were .

Do you think it was better when families were a priority and mothers were at home ? When kids could play safely outside until the street lights came on? When they could play Cowboys and Indians and ride their bikes, practically anywhere.? When people actually stood for the national anthem with their hand over their heart ? Law-enforcement was respected.? And going to church on Sunday was a priority?

It was peachy times for white, Christian families, whose kids played the cowboy part of cowboys and Indians. The ultra rich were in the 90% tax bracket.

@Northwest Since biblical times There have always been those who have more. The majority doesn’t.

I believe that those who have more should want to give more to those who need. But you can’t force them. Those who don’t, that’s on them. The wealthy give more than we think they do

Do any of us give all we can? I know that I don’t

Do you actually think that kids who played cowboy and Indians were thinking “ let’s oppress these Indians “ when I played I always was an Indian. I had long hair and braids ( No that’s not being racist ) i always thought they were pretty. Why turn a child’s game political

You really need a brain transplant. If you don't recognize what Cowboys and Indians means. Actually never mind, it worked perfectly on you.

@Northwest I’m sorry that I wasn’t politically indoctrinated as A kid. I didn’t have time to listen nor did I want to listen to adults talk about politics that I couldn’t understand. I was busy being a kid playing cowboy and Indians.

Now being an adult with the ability to understand history,?I can say that American Indians were treated horrible by the white man and I do believe that we do owe them reparations .

I don’t constantly look for racism in everything that is said by someone. Isn’t it mentally draining to be so unhappy that you have to look for the worst in humanity?

@missyann I am not saying that you're racist. I grew up with Western movies and TV that depicted Indians as savages, and cowboys as heroes, saving damsels from distress, and forced to kill savages, who were raping and pillaging.

This not NOT about woke, and me being unhappy that I have to look for the worst in humanity.

White America, consciously, or subconsciously, embedded these images in our heads, and for you to be oblivious to it, or trying to be, is indicative of how deeply entrenched you are in your socio-economic bubble.

America in the 50s, was not a good place for forward thinkers, women, all minorities, homosexuals, Jews, or anyone who was not lily white, or Anglo Saxon. But that simple fact escapes who were indoctrinated, and are not aware they were.
@missyann The reason we have government programs like Social Security and Medicare is because the churches and private charities proved completely unable to meet peoples' needs when they were greatest. It's nice that rich people contribute to charities, but if that's all we had to rely on, people would be starving to death the way they do in the developing world where government programs don't exist to take care of them.

@Northwest I watched westerns too. I don’t remember them always showing Indians as savages.

After talking with my mom she pointed out that childhood is so short and is getting shorter because we expect our children to know everything politically going on which is difficult for adults to understand and in most cases the negative is overly exaggerated

Childhood is short and she pointed out most of us have more years to be bitter and pissed off and know what history is and means. Cowboy and Indians was innocent for us. I never played Indians and smallpox. She also reminded me I played Dukes of Hazard. I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about that. Somehow I don’t remember the show attacking black people even though they had confederate flags. My brother had a black friend that we played this game with. I guess his family didn’t have a chip on their shoulder.

She said I should give my energy and anger where I can make a difference instead of social media by actually doing something for and with groups that can change things for the better good

So you keep that chip on your shoulder and scream racism intolerance and injustice

🤣😭 Jesus Christ! Not a surprise thought, because I was expecting one of those "one of my friends is (fill in the name of a minority group", so it's all OK. Talk about tone deafness.

Other than a casual interest in Daisy's Daisy Duke's I believe my two firing neurons made that show intolerable. 🤣😭

@Northwest Why turn everything into a political game? Everything is not political, racist or injustice

@missyann OK, I'll wrote it one more time: you're tone deaf.
missyann · 56-60
@Northwest Okay, you just can’t tell me what I’m not hearing
