Remember when the authorities opened fire on students in May of 1970?

No, not that one....this one. If you don't know about it, it's worth seeing. Kent State was a defining moment for the US,....BUT....this one, few people know about....because the students were black!

Ten days following the Kent State murders, the National Guard was deployed, but not allowed to carry ammunition. This time around, the state and local police opened fire: 140 shots into the crowd and the women's form. Every single window in the dorm was shattered. Two killed a dozen injured. No one was brought up on charges and a Federal investigation that authorities were not at fault. The FBI later concluded that there were no snipers, and no one fired at the police.

No one was convicted in the Kent State killings either.

I remember hearing about it at the time, but almost as an afterthought. I wondered why it didn’t get much attention.
It's true, this incident was never retold like Kent State.

Yes, I remember this, too. And it was the same year 8 black students at The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) were arrested and suspended for protesting existing racist policies (in 2020, fifty years later, the school formally apologized).

@graphite Fair enough. I have no doubt that you are very familiar with both, but most Americans aren't.

@originnone Actually, I too hadn't heard of the Jackson State massacre until now. But it was a long time ago. All I knew about Jackson State was Walter Payton went there, apparently right after this massacre.

@graphite LOL! I remember Sweetness having gone there too!
