What's also interesting is that European werewolves are often depicted as evil, but those were actually only the ones in France and Germany. In Irish folklore they were people from the village of Ossory. The village was cursed by a god and as punishment, every seven years a man and a woman had to take the form of wolves for seven years straight. After that they turned back into their human forms and the curse was passed onto a different couple. Though the werewolves didn't kill people, as the French ones supposedly did, they helped the lost and wounded that roamed the woods, and they were still able to speak in wolf form. Some stories say they could turn back into humans sometimes, by peeling off their wolf skin like peeling a banana.
Nordic shapeshifters were known to be fierce warriors, but legends vary from warriors really turning into beasts to soldiers wearing wolf pelts to make them believe they gained the power of the wolf and would become stronger and more fearless in battle.
The classic European werewolves were people who could turn themselves into wolves with a belt, a salve or something given to them by the devil (or by making a pact with Satan), being enchanted by a witch or by being born one in rare cases. The ones who made a pact with the devil to grant them the ability to shapeshift with a magical attribute could shapeshift at will and still could control themselves in some stories (they just killed people because they liked to). Enchanted werewolves became what they were against their will but also still had their human mind in wolf form. There's a Dutch story about a captain who saved a man from drowning when in wolf form. After the man regained strength, the wolf evealed its human form. The man wasn't afraid but curious to know how the captain had become a werewolf, and the captain explained that a woman who lived far in the woods had enchanted him.
There are quite few stories about (European) werewolves that transformed and lost control over themselves, and thus went on a killing spree against their will.

Shifters are out there just don't open up to many as all people do is say bad things about us. We keep it to a few we know and trust

I am a immortal and I am looking for them too. My family doesn't think they exist because we would have crossed paths , but with my dreams I have all the time I want to prove them wrong .
