Grand Designs (tv series)

Should be called 'rich people with with no concept of practicality and/or sense of design '.

Ugh, talk about ugly, impractical and "will become dated".
Meanwhile the host is lauding how a Trainwreck of galvanised steel blends seemlessly into a hillside🤦‍♀

I need to go gouge my eyes out and start drinking

Suffice to say you hate modern architecture 😳

Grand Designs is one of my favorite series and I find it unfortunate that here in the US Netflix only had access to a handful of the seasons of the show and now no longer even has those

Even with boring traditional architecture, the rich people dynamic will still be there at the residential construction level ... but we also have public scale architecture like art museums that equally offer more expansive canvases ... impractical design follies are not unknown in pre-modern architectural history either, and the ridiculously impractical Gilded Age robber baron conspicous consumption attempt by the inheritance class to ape French chateaux known as BIltmore looks as dated as any authentic chateau actually in France (and is far bigger, more ostentatious and more impractical than anyting on Grand Designs)

The rich people (and affluenza) dynamic is a problem extending beyond architectural tastes as well

@BlueGreenGrey Its one of my favorite series too. Ive watched in it from its first beginnings.
I can nearly recall every time that dude has said "bespoke" (in fact it nearly became a drinking game here at one point😏).
Its just a newer series of home self designers who, (in the greater part), should of listened to their architects.
One or two are very clever and actually do blend in with their environment. One or two are very successful and usable designs.
The others are horrific bland barns of things with no character while the others fall into that
category of 'beige'.
@NOS4R2 oh I love the idea of this bespoke drinking game 🤣🥃

There were indeed some questionable things I saw myself, for instance there was this white rectilnear cliffside home that is more or less classic Miesian Internatonal Style modernism in Wales that to me is just gorgeous ... but they should've never, ever been granted permission to build that close to an eroding cliff where everyone knows that house will succumb to the sea in just matter of decades at best ... that kind of thing is extremely daft 🤦🏻‍♀

One of my other favorites was the combo of two shipping containers stacked perpendicularly in rural Northern Ireland

Well I'm jealous because you've gotten to see far more episodes than we were graced with here grrrr ☺

edit:
you piqued my curiosity and sent me down a YouTube rabbit hole ... this game is real, this is hilarious 🤭

@BlueGreenGrey 😄
parades all episodes elitely in front of you😉

I truly love architecture, all eras. The minimalism and maximalism. The curves against the edges. The glass against the stone and everything in between. From cozy homes underground to those that defy the elements in barren places and tiny innercity plots with space judiciously scraped out of every available inch.
There is such vairety to be loved.

Signs off bespokely🦠🤪
@NOS4R2 I elitely concur with the breadth of the bespoke description you've offered
