Apparently moka pots can blow up.

My daughters girlfirend just discovered that with mine .

Did you know that coffee grounds can travel 3.5m under pressure?
I didn't .

My kitchen just got exfoliated 😏

She's honeslty the most lovely person, and i couldnt wish for a more caring partner for my kid.
But she does get side tracked sometimes.

Im cancelling the pressure cooker for her for Christmas - i want to live to see my grandchildren 😂

Yep, the pressure relief valve got stuck/clogged. Moka pots need to be descaled every now and again to prevent this from happening.

Also, if you put too much water in it and it covers the pressure relief valve, it can cause this.
@Ontheroad it must have been the water level .

I've wateched heaps of videos, about moka pots, and few mention that importance of the water level, and not one metioned how to keep the valve clean .

I found one that reccomended soaking your pot in half vinegar/half water - which i did a few months ago . But its not untill this happened, did i specifically look up about the valve , and test it . It didn't mention water level.

Ive checked the pot, its fine.... amazingly.

Im yet to talk to her to discover what lead to this - its never happened to me in all my years.

Mind you, its not so important now as i prefer a pour over style now to my stove top.

But ill ask her about thr water level.🤔

Thanks so much for explaining why it happened.

She also forgot to put the filter in - hence why coffee grounds went everyehere 😏

Really appreciate you explaining why .
Now i can explain this to her, and hopefully it'll never happen again.🤗

@OogieBoogie if she didn't use the filter basket, then that's what caused the pressure relief valve to get clogged/blocked.
@Ontheroad oh she used the basket, jist not the metal filter that goes over it . I wonder if dome grains got in the bottom and clogged the valve 🤔

I grabbed a mit and doused the whole pot with cold water to reduce any pressure left and threw it in the sink . And the valve seems fine .... although i am yet to road test the pot with just water.

@OogieBoogie it's hard to tell, but it has to be that the valve didn't release the pressure necessary to keep it from blowing.
