Rather late than never

In a landmark moment at the UN Conference on the Israel-Palestine Two-State Solution, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy officially announced that the United Kingdom now recognizes the State of Palestine. Every country should now follow.

Starting at 4:47 in the clip, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy says:

"Hamas must never be rewarded for the monstrous attack on October the 7th. It must immediately release the hostages, agree to an immediate cease-fire, accept that it will have no role in governing Gaza and commit to disarmament." [green highlight added]

I will be very interested in hearing from His Excellency just how the UK plans to enforce the conditions I highlighted in green. HOW will Hamas be kept out of governing Gaza? HOW will Hamas be made to disarm and KEPT disarmed? HOW will Iran be kept from arming and re-arming Hamas?

@Thinkerbell Not by starvation nor bombing, but that's my own guess
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@val70

So you are as bereft of answers as I suspect His Excellency will be.

P.S. Bombing and starvation seemed to work quite well against Nazis in WW2, as I am sure most Belgians agreed at the time.
val70 · 51-55
@Thinkerbell There was actually starvation here in WW1 too, etc... but lets focus on this...

Now then... somehow you totally forgetting some of the past in the sense that after WW2 there were actual measures or rules agreed against war crimes like the setting alight of German towns

and then (worst of all, I think) you seem not bothered that these actions in both Gaza and in the Westbank to the Jordan River are signs of things to come... Do you know that FDR had a plan to divide Belgium up between Holland and France after WW2?

The plans that Israel has now will totally erase Palestians because they're be turned into Jordanian citizens living in Israel, etc. There are going to be so-called Arab Emirates at most to decide on civilian matters for them, etc.

Not that I want to intrude upon the matter. I could perhaps follow the advice that I get by some. Just don't make it into a moral issue. Don't forget that Israel is the neatest pupil in that classroom. Well, this dirty liberal will have a bath next

"...after WW2 there were actual measures or rules agreed against war crimes like the setting alight of German towns."

"Rules" are quickly forgotten in the heat of war, particularly if one side can violate them with impunity. The poison gas convention was adhered to in WW2 because there would have been no net advantage to either side in using gas.

"Do you know that FDR had a plan to divide Belgium up between Holland and France after WW2?"

I didn't know that, but I do know there has been a fairly strong separatist movement in Flanders for some time now.

In fact, isn't your current PM a Flemish separatist? 🤔

"The plans that Israel has now will totally erase Palestians..."

Israeli governments come and go, but still the Palestinians have not been "erased."
In the meantime, perhaps you should read the Hamas charter and the PLO covenant regarding Israel.
val70 · 51-55
@Thinkerbell Well, the UK had Boris once. The US has Trump again. It's very easy to be sure that our current PM is atleast more intelligent than those two combined.

Honest, you haven't got a clue of the amount of books, television and such I've been consuming here since Gaza actually started off. I'm sorry, but I do know my stuff.

Next to rules don't apply any more in war (typical Patton-like, mind you... I'd trust Ike on that and him too though) there's also the awards that victory brings is for the conqueror. Clearly not done after WW2 either. Hurray for that too!
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@val70

" Clearly not done after WW2 either. Hurray for that too!"

How much territory did Germany lose after WW2? 🤔

How many millions of innocent Germans were forcibly evicted from the eastern territories with no recompense for lost property? 🤔

How many millions of innocent German women were raped (mostly by Russians taking their "awards" of victory)? 🤔

I'm certainly glad you know your stuff, Val. 🤭
val70 · 51-55
@Thinkerbell I'm sure that you know the actual Russian plans for Germany and even Japan, but lets stay on the subject matter. You seriously: what do you think of the ongoing settler attacks on Taybeh for example?

Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@val70

I think it shouldn't be happening.

I also know the difference between a firecracker and a grenade.

What do you think of Hamas and Hezbollah indiscriminately firing thousands of rockets into Israel for years before the current war started?
val70 · 51-55
@Thinkerbell Heard anything of mine in support of those crazies either? 😁
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@val70

What was Israel supposed to do, especially after Oct 7? 🙄

Your vastly one-sided criticism of Israel lends support to the crazies.

And your replies have been as bereft of explanation of exactly how Hamas will be kept out of a Palestinian government as I suspect His Excellency, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy's, will be. 🙄
val70 · 51-55
@Thinkerbell I've been telling everyone for about an year the same thing that Piers Morgan is claiming right now. That targetting in Lebanon, Syria and Iran seemed to have gone better. You can say whatever you want, but I've never supported terrorism nor terror regimes
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@val70

Repeat:

HOW will Hamas be kept out of governing Gaza? HOW will Hamas be made to disarm and KEPT disarmed? HOW will Iran be kept from arming and re-arming Hamas?

@val70

"Oh yes, that's the question now..."

That was my question from the very beginning, not just "now."🙄

But you're in good company.
I'm quite sure His Excellency, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, doesn't have the answers either.
val70 · 51-55
@Thinkerbell And that with that last insult I end it. Pick on someone your size
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@val70

Let the record show that you still haven't answered my question.

@val70

So Lammy's words, " ...accept that [Hamas] will have no role in governing Gaza and commit to disarmament..." were not to be taken seriously, but were just political eyewash...? 🤔
val70 · 51-55
@Thinkerbell I'm not Lammy. It's far better to just cut our losses now than go down with that sinking ship. Listen, I told you about the future that they're planning. You really think that they'll give the Arabs anything than apartheid? Not even after the famous vote against statehood for Palestinians in the Knesset last? So, I guess that it's far better now to pretend that we don't see nor hear any more. They've been given statehood by the Europeans. Great! Means nothing at all. If you don't believe that, you're very naive indeed. You actually believe what a politician says? Give me a break
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@val70

" Great! Means nothing at all."

I had no illusions about the hollowness of Lammy's words.

Maybe my sarcasm was a bit too subtle...? 🤔
val70 · 51-55
@Thinkerbell No, but you're very naive concerning the world out there. Plenty of politicans much worse than Lammy. Take the whole Israeli cabinet for example. But then again, you go your way and I'll go mine. I can't describe how cynical you've made me concerning discussing anything with you now. Not going down any route that's amoral nor mocking anyone
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@val70

"Take the whole Israeli cabinet for example."

There you go again, tacitly supporting Hamas with your vastly one-sided criticism of Israel. 🙄

"I can't describe how cynical you've made me concerning discussing anything with you now."

I only asked a perfectly reasonable question about the speech Lammy made, and which you yourself posted, only to say later that the speech "meant nothing."

Well, at least the truth finally came out.

THIS is what you said in your introduction to your post featuring Lammy's speech:

"In a landmark moment at the UN Conference on the Israel-Palestine Two-State Solution, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy officially announced that the United Kingdom now recognizes the State of Palestine. Every country should now follow."

Not a word about it "meaning nothing."
