With so few ships that actually work in the British Navy , you would think retiring one might be a problem.

@peterlee As long as they believe windmills are the answer , the UK will continue on into irrelevancy . Oil is power, and they have plenty.

@TexChik We are neither "woke" - though since you don't give your definition of that slang word, I admit it is hard to judge your accusation there - nor especially "green".

We are probably nowhere near as hard right-wing as the present US government though, although to be fair the USA's Left-Right political balance appears to have been to the Right of most European nations' equivalent spectrum anyway.

As for oil, we don't actually have "plenty", and what is still there would likely not last more than a couple of decades or so at present rate of use. Oil is a finite resource and will run out - even in the Saudi Arabian and American oil-fields. Then what do we do?
peterlee · M
@TexChik Enough oil to make Kevlar, and essential ammonia based derivatives like fertilisers and pharmaceuticals

That's a dreadful situation. I just checked. Aren't there six frigates (Type 23/Duke Class) left: HMS Richmond, Somerset, Sutherland, Kent, Portland, and St Albans?
