Correlation doesn't imply causation

Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@Elessar Yes, I know about the correlation not always equalling cause, however I am doing a degree in populational health and there is absolutely a link between the different data sets I provided.

If a people loses faith in the idea that they are created sons and daughters of a God that views your body as a temple, then all that's left is short lived gratification that destroys you in the mid-long term observed in the graphs. As someone who is already certified and experienced in child development, I can assure you that how you view yourself and how others treat you has a massive impact on your development.

@Therealsteve You're free to publish your findings and get them peer reviewed. Until then it's exactly a case of correlation doesn't imply causation. Writing an article around a spurious correlation doesn't automagically make it a causative one

I'm doing a degree in populational health too and according to the draft I've just written, Nicholas Cage appearing on TV screens causes people to drown in swimming pools!

I've written it so it must be true! 😂

@Therealsteve so if you're not a christian you're going to get fat?
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@Elessar

I am actually what I say I am. Do show me your expertise on the matter.

Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@SpudMuffin There is a huge correlation between lack of faith in a higher being that wants you to be the best version of yourself, and obesity.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@Therealsteve If you're an "expert" you'll know better than me that the only thing that matters is your study passing peer review, not random pictures of university speeches or screenshots of a webpage that could easily belong to anyone else.

Drop a link to the actual paper or whatever you say has exactly the same weight as the correlation between Nic Cage and pool drownings 🥴
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@Elessar So, no expertise - got it. No wonder you instead resort to trolling 🙃Oh, and it did, my first paper was on obesity, peer reviewed, and referenced. 🙃

@Therealsteve You're projecting your fallacies on others. I'm still waiting for a link to a peer reviewed study that establishes how atheism causes obesity lol

And we both know that you'll never get the evidence to back your medieval claims lol

Btw I'm not trolling, I'm asking for proof. Clearly your "expertise" is zero if you're completely extraneous to the scientific method.
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@Therealsteve there's a huge correlation between obesity and everything these days.
You've chosen just one thing to blame it on.
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@Elessar You have no expertise, I got it the first time lol
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@SpudMuffin Well yeah, I'm not outside of time, I can't compare an infinite number of things to an infinite number of other things.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@Therealsteve You're speaking to the mirror?

Let's see the study, everything else is cheap talk.
@Therealsteve Wow, in the US, conservative politics causes obesity🤣😂

The reddest states are the fattest states!!

And yes, religious observance correlates STRONGLY with obesity

Most religious states

Most obese states

BTW, @Therealsteve your graphs only have 3 or 4 data points each. With such a small amount of data, you run a strong risk of "overtraining." It means that elements of your covariance matrices may not have enough data; may be singular.

@Elessar
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@Therealsteve of course not, you've just compared one thing to one thing and implied that there's causation. I can see that you've passed some exams, well done, but that doesn't make you an expert on statistics.
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@SpudMuffin 'some'? I've just passed the whole module with an A and teach and direct on the topic.
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@Therealsteve I apologise for not properly acknowledging the magnitude of your academic awesomeness. Unfortunately you still don't seem to understand the difference between correlation and causation.
@SpudMuffin Hey, his covariance matrix (4x4) has ten degrees of freedom and seven datapoints that aren't endpoints. What could go wrong??
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@ElwoodBlues I wonder, what could go wrong? 🤔
Elessar · 31-35, M
@ElwoodBlues I've seen €3 coins more credible than this guy's statistics
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@SpudMuffin I take it you're an expert, thank you for enlightening me.
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@Therealsteve unlike you I don't claim to be an expert, but I do understand the fundamentals.
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@SpudMuffin More than happy to prove it, just got back from directing an emergency first aid training session, actually.

@FreddieUK we are united in our chubbiness, if not our beliefs!
