Porthcawl's beloved Coney Beach amusement park to close within months

I'm very sorry very sad to hear that Coney Beach Amusement Park will being closing their gates at the end of the Season it's been there in Porthcawl since 1918 hard working people who live in South Wales and further afield have enjoyed spending their leisure time there on day trips, week-end breaks, and even fortnight holidays.

Porthcawl has always been a very popular resort so why has this happened, Porthcawl is a large town there are very wealthy parts of Porthcawl I think these people disliked the Amusement Park they disliked the Caravaners and decided to get the right people on the local Council and destroy Porthcawl as a holiday resort, they have succeeded first it was the Sandy Bay Caravan Park and now Coney Beach Amusement Park, everyone I know is saddened to hear this news what a silly country Wales has become, there's no respect for hard working people's leisure time.

This is very sad! When I was a lad we would often pop across the bridge to Porthcawl, lots of happy memories.

@SpudMuffin Porthcawl has been losing bits for years it's not the holiday resort it was, there's not much left now I can't understand why this has happened sea front homes I expect.

@senghenydd it sounds as if Porthcawl is becoming a retirement home! What a shame.

@SpudMuffin This fairground/Amusement Park has now had a "Change of Use" granted by the Welsh Government suddenly Wales loses it's Premier Amusement Park WHY.

@senghenydd I think you've summarised the reason in your original post very well. The question now is what is going to replace it?

@SpudMuffin The Welsh Government has purchased parcels of land in the seafront area for a mixed-use redevelopment in the area that is expected to feature a new housing estate, retail business facilities, a new primary school, and a number of recreational and leisure opportunities.

@senghenydd 'recreational and leisure opportunities' doesn't sound as much fun as an amusement park!

@SpudMuffin The problem with a holiday resort like Porthcawl is the holidaymakers don't have a big say in the running of things their not Residents, they don't vote for the local Councillors same with most of the Traders who mostly live outside Porthcawl, the local residents have wished to see Sandy Bay and Trecco Bay Caravan sites gone for years they have been granted one of their wishes with Sandy Bay, I've sure they'll be pleased about Coney Beach too.
