Jubilee Celebrations and generation gap expectations/experiences
Queens platinum Jubilee - Good excuse for 2 bank holidays! Had some homemade bunting up by the house. Not many people round here have though. I hear some places have though. At first I thought that people are not that in to it, but it seems like some people are. Not sure if they're really in to the royal family or more an excuse for a celebration though and depends on the community. I wonder if some countries that are part of the commonwealth have done anything for it...I mean I know we don't have that much to do with them sometimes tho...
There was a beacon lit here though and some fireworks. Also a speech given by the mayor, where my mum appeared to be taken back by the fact that there were not that many people there to listen to it (about 50 watching it in a village...not that bad? Especially at midday). 'Some people were even mowing their lawns when it was happening!' 🤣 She is also shocked that my niece doesn't know all the words to the national anthem. I don't either and not sure many people my age (30s) do. And he started his speech with 'Oh yea, oh yea, oh yea,' which I randomly found amusing.
There was a trail round the village where you had to count the number of corgis and find clues for stuff, which was a lovely idea. I think the winning entry for it gets something, maybe a hamper from the co-op (small supermarket), although it didn't actually say in the newsletter.
Yep, we have a newsletter. I wonder how many other villages or towns do. It is online too. And yeah, there are adverts but it isn't mostly adverts. I mean a fair amount, but some decent stuff about local events, the local school's outings/days out etc and quite a few pictures too.
