How is this racism if he was telling the truth?

There are certain truths that some people just cannot accept. When they cannot accept them they resort to defense mechanisms. This is one of the main ones they use. It's called "I don't agree, so I'll call it racist". It's one of their oldest tricks. These people are called "Liberal". Even though they aren't very liberal in their tolerance for other ideas.

"Racism" has nearly become a meaningless term.
It's over used and misused to a point that being called racist has lost it's sting. Shoot, I've been labeled a racist simply because I'm white!

Because these days the slur of racism is the go to attack option used by people if they disagree with what another person is saying and cannot counter the persons point with valid counter points..

It wasn't racist ,it was stupid and thoughtless.
Reminds me of a friend of mines Uncle who was on the train to London and he called some black Children Marvellous to their white grandmother, she went off it.

There's a level of subconscious racism taking place, for sure. Instead of simply saying "Apologies, I momentarily mixed you up" he instead says "they all look the same to me" - that's fairly egregious, and totally untrue as the people in question look nothing alike.

What's worse, Sajid Javid is a very well known member of his party; so what this MP is saying is he can't tell the difference between Sajid Javid, a man he has known for years, with another senior MP who looks nothing alike.

In short, I don't care enough about my non-white party members to tell them apart.

Because it hurts someone's feelings.
