What should be done to stop Putin's genocide in Ukraine... as opposed to what has been done to date?

Is it time for the world to put a stop to this atrocity? How do we go about it?

I think that Europe, not the US, should send paratroopers to Ukraine. France may start by sending 5000 professionally trained légion étrangère guys as a first step, well equipped with the most modern and deadly armament. UK should provide Ukraine with long-range missiles so military targets in Russia can be destroyed.
Then let's see how the Russian monsters will react and whatever they will do we'll strike back ten times harder.

@helenS Why just Europe?

@Ontheroad Because Russia is, as President Obama rightly said, only a regional power. They are much weaker than they appear. Their only strength is our own fear. The US should become involved only if Russia starts threatening the world with its nuclear arsenal.

@helenS You do understand that Russia, including its leader, has threatened the use of nuclear weapons if any country should send troops to stop his aggression, right?

I understand your reasoning, but the best defense is an overwhelming offense.

I believe we (the U.S.), should be an equal partner in any actions taken against Russia.

@Ontheroad I think at the moment it's more important that Russia knows you good people will always stand by us, and you will support us if necessary. 🌷
I know it won't be easy. Russia is like Hamas, only much more powerful.

@helenS Be careful with the French Foreign Legion. After France sent them to secure Vietnam and betrayed them there, many returned to Algiers and declared their war of independence from France.

@Ontheroad at some point i think it will become inevitable that Russia will face an existential threat and either capitulate or commit suicide by nuclear war. Not much in between.

@Heartlander Yes, a long time ago. That was when France got rid of its empire. The contemporary French Legion is quite efficient. They would be able to clear Ukraine of any Russian killer troops.

@Ontheroad
Why just Europe?
Here's another point: more than only a few Europeans appear to believe that America will support Europe in all eternity, no matter what. When NATO was founded, Europe was in ruins, totally destroyed by the fascist war. We needed help, and we got more than enough help from you good guys across the pond. I fully understand that many Americans are no longer willing to pay for our safety.

@helenS Hmm, I do believe the combined forces of the alliance countries in Europe have the necessary combat forces to put an end to Putin's aggression, and honestly, it would be good for them to do so without our help (boots on the ground).

I do think it would be costly for Europe to do so (in terms of lost lives), and I think our assistance would greatly reduce the casualty count... still, I see where you want to go and can't disagree.

@helenS I had a great experience with the French air force once. Years and years ago. I was part of what was then known as the rotational squadrons of C-130s in France. It was one of those era when French air traffic controllers shut down their air traffic control completely. Total shutdown. They did, however back-door US military flights over France by providing French military radar assistance. So we were able to scoot across France under the protection of the French Air Force. Along the way one time, the radar controller asked if we minded being intercepted by a French fighter flight that needed the practice. So "yea" this would be interesting. So 5 minutes later, a flight of 4 Mirage planes were on our wing tip, and took turns swapping from left to right and the pilots waving. After thanking us for cooperating, 3 of them peeled off and left, the one remaining, however accelerated to a thousand feet or so directly ahead and did a stepped barrel roll before departing. It was like a ring-side seat at an air show.

@helenS lol. So much ignorance. The armies of Ukraine have been slaughtered and Putin hasn't even broken a sweat.
