If we've ruled out sending advanced weaponry to Ukraine because it might start WW3, wasn't it kind of dumb to send anything?

Because now it just looks like we helped them provoke a bear, and now they are getting mauled we are saying the situation is too hot

False premise.

We've ruled out sending SOME advanced weaponry to Ukraine; in particular we've ruled out some long range missiles. On the other hand, we've sent them plenty of Javelin fire-and-forget anti-tank missiles.
