Istanbul is a very ancient city, and very important for a very long time. Also was the center of Orthodox Christianity.

@Jexie Istanbul, used to be known as Constantinople, before Turkey wanted places with Turkish names. Constantinople (or Byzantium which was the original name of the city before an emperor changed it) was the capital of what was known as the Eastern Roman Empire (The Roman Empire was split into two smaller empires as way to make it easier to manage and prevent collapse) and would become a huge center of trade and culture for roughly a 1,000+ years. It was far wealthier from its trade than the Western Roman Empire, which would collapse a few hundred years after the split (Is also considered the fall of the Roman Empire itself). After that Eastern Roman Empire was known more as the Byzantine Empire, It has several beautiful monuments that still stand today, and is a big melting pot of several cultures and ideas. I hope to visit it someday because of much history and how significant it was to civilization.
