Have you ever been to Switzerland? No-one can actually live there. It's way too expensive.
@Ferise1 No attraction to be there except for rich people (tax avoidance) and those who have been born there.

In Germany anno 2024, foreign nationals accounted for approximately 37% of Germany's total prison population, which translated to over 16,000 individuals. In Switzerland then 72% to 73% of the total prison population, and in France, a country where the comparison with Germany is rather more reliable, it stood at 25%.

The high proportion of foreigners in Swiss prisons is primarily driven by pre-trial detention (remand) and legal sentencing structures, rather than disproportionately higher crime rates across the board. This year in Germany the figure is already 45% because of yet again higher rates of pre-trial detention among non-citizens, socioeconomic disparities, demographic profiles, and systemic judicial practices that are often compounded by language and cultural barriers.

@GeretJan it’s still a very high percentage compared to their representation in society.
@Ferise1 Yes, but foreigners waiting in prison for the decision if a refugee status will be granted is in the number. In Switzerland, refugees and asylum seekers who have not committed criminal offenses can be placed in specialized administrative detention (often housed in prisons or dedicated holding facilities) for up to 18 months.
