It looks as if he drew the Haggis according to his portrait. There are quite a few similarities. The prominent nose being one of the major similarity. Even his beard has somewhat survived.

He probably wanted to leave a legacy for the entire world.

He must have been a "bon vivant" but did not want people to see how well fed he was and that is why his portrait is limited to the upper torso. The similarity with the Haggi would have been too obvious.
