He came over with two brothers, one of whom went to New York and the other to Canada; have a letter between them expressing concern for Simon (my ancestor) because they hadn't heard from him in a while. We also have the letter from Simon to them explaining that General Sherman had come through, ransacked and burned his farm, but left him alive because he was a minister and it was considered bad luck to kill them.

Pretty crazy stuff. :)
