I Love Scotland
So nae lang comin' back frae bonny Scotland. I had a holiday there for 2 weeks and it was one of THE best holidays I have ever had. I went back to Edinburgh as I had lived there previously for twa years for my studies at Queen Margaret University. I lived on campus then in Musselburgh but had opportunity to explore some of the city and places I needed to get to, there. I did a bit of sicht-seeing before when I was a Fresher and did the tour around the castle, but throughout my holidays, I tried to soak in as much of the culture and history as possible and do things that I didn't get to do too much of before.
So I walked up to Calton Hill, seen the Nelson Monmument and the Observatory and walked on Hume walk, because there was a guy called Hume that really liked it up there that he fought hard for Calton Hill to be preserved for benefit of the city-dwellers, were they can all go for leisurely activities up there and keep fit, I don't blame the guy. It was quite easy to fall in love with the place, and the view, oh my, the view was spectacular and I was able to see the two main bridges, Forth Rail Bridge and the Queensferry suspension bridge? Which probably was more than likely the bridge I came over on the bus. I saw the exhibitions up there as well and I did my best to take my time and read everything. I got some information about the time-ball at Nelson Monument, they said it was taken away at one point, but in like, recent years, say 2006, the time-ball got re-installed and it drops at exactly one o'clock and in time with cannon-shot from Edinburgh Castle, even to this day. And I'm like, I'm sticking around for that. Simple thing to stick around and watch this happening to take place, and everything I read on it, to see it drop in time with the time-gun, sitting on the structure that was never completed but got dubbed "The Athens of the North", was very satisfying. I seen opportunities for lots of shots.
As well as the other places I went to, Scottish Parliament, Dynamic Earth, the Queen's Palace and Gallery (but not too much of a dickhead to pay for a ticket to walk around the place, when I had only so much money to do me for 2 weeks) and the National Museum of Scotland.
I went up to Arthur's Seat as well! The view was really stunning!! Loved running around the mountain-top like an eejit, I saw the compass up there. I seen everything around me! And when I was exploring the other-side of it? I saw a pheasant and I decided to stalk it for a bit, I have that on video. I always tried to do something each day
I also went around to Cramond and walked along its promenade and nearby fields and took a picture of the Island because, I couldn't get over there as the path was flooded and you can only get over there when there is a low tide, which only happens at certain times of the day and evening but saw around there on what was Roman structures. I had myself a twin-cone ice-cream with a flake though. Beautiful. It had been some time! You don't get them in Northern Ireland!!
The Hostel I went to, was THE Hostel on Haymarket and I have to say it was one of the best Hostels I had ever stayed in. I met some awesome people there, made new buddies. There was a lounge area that made it easy for people to commune and very easy to make conversation with people. A relaxed atmosphere! And when I made buddies there, it was easy to form a group for nights out. I loved Karaoke Night! 1st night was the best. I went to this place called Banshee Labyrinth and I think they do Karaoke from 10 - 3am, really 11 though, but getting there early is the best bit! Hitting the show off to a good start is a great feeling and plenty of tourists on that night, the place was packed! The regulars didn't know what hit it! Haha. Also went to P.D.T's, funky wee joint. And before that Brewdog, where I had Auld Crabbies, which is stout, but better than Guinness, though when you get to the bottom, there was a bitter taste. But it was the best!
[I also shot a film over there for the Edinburgh Festival, called a "Night Walk in Edinburgh" and so if you are about for the Festival, check it out soon at the Fruitmarket Gallery!!]
I'm now home for 2 days, I'm secretly planning another trip back! :D Though a friend I made at The Hostel is now in Belfast staying at another Hostel, a proper nomad and I'm gonna head up there tomorrow and perhaps there will be more drink, who knows lol. ha. But we'll have a good time. :) And the best of it, he's still wearing his Kilt. :)
