from what i have read the Korean missiles were not those just ordinary rockets, short range ballistic missiles. so no not ahead of us in any way

So what? Best case for North Korea, they blow up the US and then out of a smoking crater in the ground somewhere in the midwest, we slap back with enough conventional rockets to turn South Korea into a fucking peninsula.
