Aotearoa gives Women the RIGHT TO VOTE

It's a proud day to be a Kiwi! 132 years ago today, Aotearoa became the first to grant all Women the right to vote. It took more than 30 years for the UK and America to join us.

...while in Switzerland, this feat was accomplished in 1971 only, one of the last civilized countries to allow us to take part in the active political life.

I am not going to mention what this has done to the country in terms of political failed decisions and the consequences the nation has to face.

Great for Aotearoa and a shame for Switzerland.

One might argue - and I'm not going to - that it wasn't "Aotearoa" but "New Zealand" which enfranchised women years and years before the Northern hemisphere. I guess the population were more concerned about the equality of the sexes than re-naming their country.

@ArtieKat Interestingly Māori men already had the vote being land owners and Māori women also got the vote at the same time. The Aboriginal in Australia didn't get the vote until 1962.

Not a case of renaming the country. It has been known as that since before colonisation although that debate still goes on. New Zealand is just an anglicised name of the Dutch one Nieuw Zeeland that Abel Tasman gave it as he sailed past. It doesn’t really have anything to do with it's history Māori or British.
