I Am Dutch

I am Danish and I have noticed that many Americans but also other English speaking people belive that Dutch is the language spoken in Denmark.
This can be a little annoying for a Dane but I wonder how a Dutch person feels about so many people believing that her language is the language of another country than the Netherlands.

It pains me greatly that I was never told about my family on either side. On my dad's side, I am German. I am Dutch on my mom's side. Her people came from Holland. That is the end of what I was told of my background.
I am quite interested in both these nationalities but don't know where or how to begin looking. I'm not that good at navigating the net. My mom's family did go to Holland but my mom was not able to go along since she was the wife of an overseas missionary; a choice she never regretted.
