I'm fascinated by old maps, am I the only one to feel they are testimony from a world who disappeared

I get the sort of fascination with them. The maps the first explorers would have used with so many mysteries about the world.
I've not done any study about this, but i'd think these are much less accurate than the maps we make these days.
