Drug Raid in Rome: Carabinieri Storm Quarticciolo – 11 Arrested
Rome – The Carabinieri carried out a large-scale operation against drug trafficking in the Quarticciolo neighborhood. During the 12-hour operation, investigators arrested 11 people and seized approximately 1,000 doses of crack and cocaine. At the same time, in collaboration with the housing authority Ater Roma, the city’s appearance was improved through the removal of graffiti.
The operation carried out by the Carabinieri of the Roma Casilina Company was aimed at boosting residents' sense of security and curbing petty crime. The measures were in line with the strategies of the Prefect of Rome, Dr. Lamberto Giannini, and were coordinated with the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security.
Hiding Places and Arrests
During the operation, the Carabinieri employed a „pincer movement“ to seal off access to known drug trafficking hubs in the neighborhood. Most of the individuals arrested were already known to the authorities and were unemployed. They used public and communal areas as hiding places for the cans prepared for sale, including utility boxes, holes in the ground, light wells, and green spaces.
During the searches, several people were caught in the act and arrested. Among them were a 19-year-old Tunisian in possession of a mixture of crack, cocaine, and hashish; a 26-year-old Moroccan who was already barred from staying in Rome and was in possession of crack; and a 46-year-old Syrian with crack who was required to register with the authorities. A 42-year-old Moroccan woman was arrested after selling crack, and a 32-year-old woman from Rome was found in possession of a significant amount of crack and cocaine. In addition, a 29-year-old woman and a 23-year-old Tunisian man were found in possession of crack together; a 46-year-old Roman man was found with cocaine and crack; a 33-year-old Romanian woman was found with crack; and a 22-year-old Tunisian man was found with hashish.
In addition, the Carabinieri executed an arrest warrant against a 29-year-old Roman man who was already under house arrest. He must serve the remainder of his sentence—5 years and 3 months—as ordered by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office. The accused are presumed innocent.
