Those who know Venice, Italy, is it normal to want to get lost in the alleyways?

I like exploring. There's a good kind of lost when in Venice where you discover beautiful places off the beaten tourist track, palazzos from different centuries, gardens, quaint bed and breakfasts, cafés and small bistros that serve authentic and traditional dishes that are inexpensive because they aren't located in prime locations where tourists gather.
