Yes, a few times. It's fantastic.
It is the birthplace of the Renaissance, and sectional "dome" of the main cathedral IS the work which is taken as that starting point.
The baptistry right across from it has famous, huge bronze doors...very impressive, as they tell a story...
The Uffizi gallery is one of the world's great art museums. Michelangelo's statue of David has a special place further out.
There are so many things...but see what *you* like, and start by checking out the wikipedia and get Rick Steves' book on Italy.
I'm not sure how your trip is set up, but Pisa is not far from Florence, next to the coast...
