On June 16, 2025, two Chinese Type 815A electronic surveillance ships were observed in the Persian Gulf, amid active hostilities between Iran and Israel. These ships, part of China’s advanced signals intelligence fleet, are equipped to track missile launches and intercept radar, communications, and telemetry data.

Defense analysts have speculated these vessels may be providing real-time intelligence support to Iran, relaying surveillance data including Israeli aerial and missile movements. They may also help Iranian forces to improve the accuracy and timing of their drone and missile strikes during the ongoing conflict.
