Benjamin Netanyahu

A number of years ago a pastor friend of mine was all agog over Benjamin Netanyahu becoming PM of Israel. He waxed poetic about how he thought Netanyahu was God's anointed. I had little information to go on so I simply filed it away as useful information. Lately I have been listening to analysts who have had personal interaction with Mr Netanyahu. They don't speak kindly of him. In fact they go so far as to disparage him. They even say the Netanyahu was the guy who started Hamas. Hmmmm

"They even say the Netanyahu was the guy who started Hamas".
It was publically said (and so documented) by past and actual military and political leaders of Israel that the creation of Hamas was at least promoted and at least partially financed by Israeli State (or some of it´s branches).
It was thought as competence to the OLP in a way less tied to palestinian interests and identity and more like one more islamic political actor.
They also say that at the light of later history they NOW regret those actions and friendly talks.
Was Benjamin Netanyahu part of this? I have no certainty about but it wouldn´t be a big surprise.

@ElRengo Israel thought that by creating Hamas it would weaken the PLO.

That´s what I´ve said, yes (sorry for naming the PLO as OLP - the way we say it in Spanish).
Furthermore it seems (at least seems) to be consistent to some kind of long term view / "strategy" to dilute palestinians into a wider islamic / arab identity.
By now the 2nd step (probably not planned by 1988) is to equate palestinians with Hamas.

My take (a personal one) is never trust the powerful ones........
